Since 2015, Eastside Community Church has partnered with Marshall and Cathryn Brown in the Pastors Training Program (PTP) in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and South Sudan. It is a program for educating and training pastors and church leaders to be able to better understand and minister God's Word. It was developed by Marshall (PhD in Systematic Theology from London School of Theology), with the input of African leaders, to provide what a pastor would need as an alternative to attending a Bible school or seminary. It is made up of four courses:
The Story of the Bible, How to Study the Bible, How to Preach God's Word, and The Teachings of the Bible. It is designed to be a one year program taught in 3 week long meeting times with homework and group participation between the sessions. There has been success in training gifted native teachers in each of these countries to be able to teach their own countrymen. Marshall travels regularly to these countries, until the people in the country can take over leadership. Ethiopia has completely transitioned to national leadership, the other countries are at some level in that process. As the Lord gives opportunity, this teaching method might be expanded to different places.
